Louguan Tai (the Lookout Tower), known as
the First Happy Land, is a famous scenic spot of Taoism in China. It is situated
at the piedmont of Zhongnan Mountain in Zhouzhi County, Xi'an City, and is 70
kilometers away from the Xi'an downtown.
The Lookout Tower has Qinling
Mountain in its south and the Weihe River in its north. There is a luxuriant
bamboo forest in the piedmont of Zhongnan Mountain, which is therefore reputed
as the Fascinating Place and Happy Land. The extant historical sites include the
Canon-Explanation Platform, the Alchemy Stove, the L
ü Gong Cave, the Huanu
Spring, the Louguan Tower, the Laozi Tomb, the Zongsheng Palace, the Huiling
Taoist Temple, the Yuhua Taoist Temple, the Yansheng Taoist Temple and so
on.
It was in the Lookout Tower that Laozi, the
founder of Taoism, finished his masterpiece Dao De Jing (Classic of the
Way and its Power), which has some 5,000 Chinese characters
altogether.
