Fu Tieshan

  Fu Tieshan is a famous Catholic scholar and an activist in China.

  

  He was born in the Qingyuan County in North China's Heibei Province in November 1931. He currently acts as chairman of the China Patriotic Catholic Association, vice-chairman of the Chinese Catholic Bishops College, director of the National Administrative Commission of the Chinese Catholic Church, chairman of the Bejing Patriotic Catholic Association, and the bishop of the Beijing Catholic Parish.

  

  From 1941 to1956, he studied at the priory, the abbey and two other Catholic institutes of the Beijing Parish. From 1956 to1979, he acted as a priest at the Xishiku Church, a priest at Nantang and a foreign language teacher of the Bejing Parish.

  

  From 1979 to1992, he acted as the bishop of the Beijing Catholic Parish, vice-chairman of the China Patriotic Catholic Association, vice-director of the National Administrative Commission of the Chinese Catholic Church, vice-chairman of the Chinese Catholic Bishops College, director of the Association for International Understanding of China and director of the China Welfare Fund for the Handicapped.

  

  After 1992, he acted as the vice-chairman and secretary-general of the Chinese Catholic Bishops College, chairman of the Beijing Patriotic Catholic Association, Beijing Administrative Commission of the Catholic Bishop, bishop of the Beijing Catholic Parish, and vice-chairman of the Beijing Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

  

  He is a member of the Standing Committee of the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Beijing Political Consultative Conference, a member of the Standing Committee of the 6th and 7th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top advisory body, and a member of the Standing Committee of the 8th and 9th National People's Congress (NPC).
