Chen Jiageng Prize is a prestigious award to honor outstanding Chinese scientists who forge ahead and scale scientific and technological heights to revitalize the nation.
The Prize, which is named after Chen Jiageng, a noted leader of patriotic overseas Chinese communities, was established in 1988 by Chen Jiageng Foundation, which is contributed mainly by Chen Gongcun, and other individual and corporate donors both at home and abroad, scientists from University of Science and Technology of China, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Xiamen University, etc. The awarding and appraisal committees are composed of renowned scholars, specialists and Chen's family members. The academic divisions of China Academy of Scientists (CAS) are entrusted with organizing the appraisal procedures, and awarding ceremony is held at CAS general assemblies.
The prize mainly covers Mathematics and Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Agriculture, Medical Science, Earth Sciences, Information Science and Technical Sciences
Chen Jiageng (also known as Tan Kah Kee), lauded by Chairman Mao Zedong as "The standard bearer of overseas Chinese; the glory of the nation", is a great patriot and outstanding leader of overseas Chinese.
