and commodities fairs of various kinds were frequently held. On November 22,
1986, the China Fashion Research and Design Center announced for the first time
the spring-summer fashion trend in 1987.
Therefore, it is not difficult to reach the following conclusion: A flourishing national economy promises better-dressing people.
In 1992, when Deng Xiaoping, the late Chjnese leader as well as the chief architect of China's reform and opening-up, was touring the southern part of China, he called for further opening-up of China's economy, enabling some people to get rich first. Large amount of foreign capital began to enter into China, giving rise to many rich people in China. Some began to wear brand-name fashion, purposely displaying the outside trademark.
As an Italian magazine Panorama commented in 1993, "the 'blue ants,' the name used to refer to the Chinese, are transforming into dazzling butterflies." It was fairly good for the Chinese to be praised. What was more encouraging, however, was the prospering Chinese society.
China has risen to occupy a pivotal position in the international arena. With a stable society and advanced quality of life, Chinese people are now paying more and more attention to their dressing styles, attaching much importance to the culture, individuality, and comfort of their clothes.
