Feng introducing his paintings to the guests
Two severe problems in the rescue program were the lack of cultural workers and funds. Feng sold his own paintings twice to raise funds for the foundation to support the investigation of fine arts folk legacies in Yunnan and Guizhou provinces. Though the Ministry of Culture supported the project, Feng predicted that success would depend on the support of other NGOs. "We need so much more help for this project, especially from NGOs everywhere. We have 40,000 volunteers thus far, but even if we multiply that 100 times, it's still not enough … We have limited funds, and the investigation and rescue has proved to be very hard work," Feng said. "So it requires a strong sense of dedication. Many cultural workers have worked silently without complaint. Some well-known senior experts have slept in ordinary inns, sometimes they even have to lodge in farmers' houses. There are many moving stories behind this work."
