The first China Chengdu International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival will be held between May 23rd and June 10th in Chengdu. During this period, the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage will be convened from the 23rd to the 27th.

　　Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and the Sichuan Provincial Government, and organized by the Chengdu Municipal Government, Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, the event is one of the four Chinese national cultural celebrations approved by the State Council. With a theme “to conserve and develop national culture, spread human civilization and shape a harmonious world,” the festival includes a grand opening ceremony and parade, a project expo, a forum on cultural heritage protection, folk customs and song and dance shows and conferences on special topics. Representatives from more than 50 countries or regions worldwide and over one million local citizens will be involved in all programs for the event.
