The First China Chengdu International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival (“Intangible Heritage Festival” for short) is to be held in Chengdu from May 23 to June 10. This is the first international festival held by China and also the world for preservation of intangible cultural heritages. Yesterday, the reporter learned from Chengdu Executive Committee of the festival that, in order to expand the influence of the festival and draw worldwide attention to the preservation and succession of intangible cultural heritages, more than 50 wonderful performance shows from across the country will go upon the stage one after another. And, the most exciting part is that, all these performance shows will be available free of charge for local citizens.

Performances are divided into five parts

It is learned that, the entertainment performances during the festival will be divided into five parts, i.e., the theme evening performances, performances in theatres in the city proper, performances in the theatre of China Chengdu National Intangible Cultural Heritage Park, performances in campuses, communities, SOS Children’s Village and sanatorium, and the evening gala during the closing ceremony. All these performances will be in full swing during the intangible heritage festival held in this city. At that time, over 50 performance shows given by more than 2,000 actors and actresses from 10-odd performance units will be put on in 15 venues for the audience.

“The performance shows organized this time are the best among the intangible cultural heritages.” According to an official of the festival, Chengdu Executive Committee invited some of the traditional operas among the world’s and China’s lists of first intangible cultural heritages to Chengdu to entertain the audience, such as the Kunqu Opera, the song-and-dance duet popular in northeastern China, Shanxi Opera, Henan Opera, and the Lantern Opera in Northern Sichuan. Meanwhile, performance shows of local intangible cultural heritages will also appear on the stage one after another to compete with those excellent shows from across the country.

It is learned that, Henan Opera and Shanxi Opera performance shows will be staged in Jincheng Art Palace, Kunqu Opera, Lantern Opera, song-and-dance duet and children’s puppet shows in Jinjiang Theatre, and Beijing Opera performance show titled Xue Tao in Xinsheng Theatre. At that time, hundreds of famous artists and award-winning actors and actresses coming from across the country will get together in Chengdu to show the charms of China's intangible cultural heritages.

The performance show will be held on May 23 in the Golden Opera House. It is learned that the performance show will focus mainly on the Chinese projects included in the “UNESCO Catalogue of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity”, namely, the art of Kunqu Opera, the art of Ancient Qin, the art of Chinese Xinjiang Uygur Muqam, and the Mongolian traditional folk Long Song. In addition, the performances including the tap-tap dance from Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Opera titled Jinshan Temple, and Sichuan clapper talk titled Jinqianban that are featured by novelty, originality, unique art and high appreciation will also appear on the stage one after another.

Large-scale fireworks performance to appear during the closing ceremony

The closing ceremony and the large-scale fireworks party named Tianfu Memories will be the last performance of this intangible heritages festival. The evening party is to be held on June 10 in China Chengdu National Intangible Cultural Heritage Park. The reporter learned from relevant official that, the evening party of the closing ceremony will be presented in multiple climaxes and magnificent scenes by using modern and hi-tech stage effects as the carrier and the interaction with the audience as the cut-in point, and lighting characteristic fireworks at different altitudes, so as to display the essence of the intangible cultural heritages in different modes, to demonstrate the pleasant memories of people towards the beautiful Sichuan province, and to arouse the audience's longing for the Chinese civilization.
