China will continue to protect its intangible cultural heritages by setting up a total of 10 national reserves in steps.
Deputy Director of the Department of Social Culture and Library of the Ministry of Culture, Qu Shengrui, made the statement at a press conference on Wednesday in Beijing concerning the first festival of international intangible cultural assets to be held in China.
Qu Shengrui noted that China will make efforts to protect those who will inherit and carry forward intangible cultural heritages and the humanistic and natural environments that nurture the development of these heritages.
The official said China will constitute standards and rules for those who inherit them and announce a list of the names of the inheritors in June.
In addition, the country will actively build up museums and exhibition centers to rescue rare physical materials of intangible cultural heritage in danger of being lost. This will be done to prevent them from being taken out of the country.
Intangible cultural heritages, as defined by the UNESCO Convention, consist of non-physical characteristics, practices, representations and expressions, as well as knowledge and skills that identify and define a group or civilization.
