Xu Zhen's Shout is a multi-channel video installation depicting
a fleeting intervention in the cosmopolitan public domain. Video footage of 40
sites in Shanghai depict a sudden scream by an unknown party that halting
strangers on the street as they turn towards a hidden camera to ascertain the
source . Shout explores the instinctive and universal human response to the
unexpected, and acts- as the first work encountered upon entering the China
pavilion-as an awakening.
