Liu attempts to capture the frenetic and overwhelming aspects of
contemporary urban life with his indoor motion-activated light installation,
Star. When viewers enter the corridor of oil tanks their spatial orientation and
perception will be momentarily jolted by rhythmic, blinding flashes of white
light. This sensory assault can elicit paranoia, discomfort and
unpredictability, or even the illusion of celebrity.
