Title: Bamboo Shoots
Date: 2005
Medium: Bamboo,
steel wire, strapping and hemp cord
Composed and structured by woven bamboo arches, Bamboo Shoots is an outdoor architectural installation demonstrating the extraordinary materiality of bamboo and craftsmanship by traditional bamboo artisans from southern China. In conjunction with walls and fruit trees on site, the installation forms and shapes the outdoor garden courtyard into various spaces for the viewer to move through and occupy. The canopy is an open vessel, much like the inaugural China pavilion.
