The "Economic Summit on China's 11th Five-Year Plan and the Development of Hong
Kong" was held by the SAR Government in September 2006. In January 2007, the
"Economic Summit" Expert Groups submitted to the Chief Executive their proposals
for the programme of Agenda regarding the future development and direction of
Hong Kong's economy. The proposals cover the four areas of trade and business;
financial services; maritime, logistics, and infrastructure; and professional
services, information, technology, and tourism.

In 2006 the Hong Kong SAR Government established five research and
development centers to promote innovation and development in the areas of
communications and information technology, logistics and supply chain
management, automotive components, and nano technology, as well as advanced
materials, textiles, and the garment industry.
