Dynamic Hong Kong

The Hong Kong SAR Government and the people of Hong Kong work together to develop new areas of enterprise and maintain urban growth and stability. Thanks to their unremitting efforts, Hong Kong remains one of the most economically dynamic and competitive regions in the world.

　　Each year on the anniversary of the return of Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty, the SAR Government holds a grand flag-raising ceremony with the SAR and national flags in Golden Bauhinia Square.

The Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China states that Hong Kong shall maintain a high degree of autonomy, with the exception of the areas of foreign relations and national defense, which are the responsibility of the Central Government. Hong Kong enjoys executive, legislative and independent judicial power, including that of final adjudication. The ten years since the transfer of sovereignty have demonstrated that the people of Hong Kong have taken control of their own destiny, and are fully capable of governing Hong Kong.
