Hong Kong Repertory Theatre
Established in 1977 and incorporated in 2001, the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre (HKRep) is the territory's leading professional theater company with a repertoire of over 200 plays, covering, but not limited to, adaptations of foreign plays, modern theatre classics as well as original local plays. Under the artistic directorship of veteran Fredric Mao, the Company endeavors to enhance Hong Kong as a vibrant cultural metropolis and to explore opportunities for cultural exchanges with Mainland China and abroad. Virtually all major productions of HKRep are in Cantonese with English subtitles, with some in Putonghua (mandarin Chinese).
Hong Kong Sinfonietta
Hailed as "one of the world's great small orchestras," the Hong Kong Sinfonietta was founded in 1990 with a mission to bring music closer to the community. Today, under the leadership of music director Yip Wing-sie, the orchestra performs more than 70 times a year, and is renowned for its impassioned performances, innovative audience development concerts, crossover productions and new commissions.
Over the years, the orchestra has collaborated with an illustrious array of
international musicians including Ashkenazy, Dumay, Hogwood, Pavarotti and
Zukerman, and has been a regular guest at festivals at home and abroad. Its most
recent overseas performances included six concerts at La Folle Journée Festival
in Tokyo in May 2006, a concert at the prestigious National Philharmonic Hall in
Warsaw and concerts at festivals in France and Lithuania during that summer.
