Located on bustling Nathan Road in a corner of
Kowloon Park, the Kowloon Mosque caters to the more than 50,000 Mulims in the
territory. It is the largest and most important Islamic Mosque in Hong Kong.
There is a significant Muslim community in Hong Kong, most of whom live around here in Kowloon. In fact the ethnic and cultural mix of people is partly what makes Kowloon an interesting area to visit.
The mosque is an impressive pure white marble building. Built in 1984, the mosque stands out on the Golden Mile, with four minarets and a large white-marble dome highlighting its presence. The original mosque building served the British army's Indian Muslim troops.
The mosque is especially interesting to visit on Friday lunchtimes. Visitors
are welcome to enter the mosque on other days but groups should call in
advance.
